Leaving Education
There are different openings available if you wish to leave formal education, enabling you to gain experience, develop your skills and/or enter work.
Paid Employment
Where it is appropriate, young people with should receive support to help them progress into sustainable paid employment opportunities.
It is the responsibility of the local authority, partners, and providers to work with young people and their parents/carers to identify the best route towards raising aspirations and securing suitable employment.
Through the Education Health and Care Plan ( ) Outcomes and Reviews, young people should be encouraged to gain an understanding of the world of work and be helped to develop the skills required by employers.
A young person will maintain their if they enter the following employment with training opportunities:

Traineeships
A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last from 6 weeks up to 1 year, though most traineeships last for less than 6 months. Traineeships provide help to get work, such as writing a CV, work placements and finding a job. You will also receive help with English, maths and basic digital skills (if you need it)
You won’t be paid, but you may be given expenses for things like travel and meals.

Internship and Volunteering
Knowsley Community College run the Knowsley Supported Internship Programme to help young people with to gain work experience, learn new skills and maybe progress to paid employment. There are also some organisations that offer work as a Volunteer or supported employment.
Employment/Training advice
National Careers Service provides information, advice and guidance to help you make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. The service offers confidential and impartial advice. This is supported by qualified careers advisers.
With Supported Employment & Training you will have support from a job coach who helps you learn the skills for a job. It also offers you the time in order to learn how to do the job you would like to do. Day Support
Day services including Activity Bases also offer opportunities to gaining new skills and develop the skills you already have.

Community Groups
There are many Community/Voluntary groups that also offer support and venues for people to attend during the days, please contact them for further information.
Money management/Finance
If you would like some help in being able to manage your finances and learn practical money management skills then Barclays Money Skills have a number of resources and NatWest MoneySense has interactive pages for different age groups as well as for teachers/parents.
