Time to Talk is an exciting new programme for young people with Special Education Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) developed by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTi) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Trained staff will provide 50 young people in England with person centred planning sessions to enable young people to:

  • develop their aspirations, motivation, and plans for the future;
  • feel heard and valued;
  • strengthen their emotional wellbeing and resilience;
  • be well equipped to manage transitions

Funding for the project is for 6 months and owing to the COVID-19 restrictions we anticipate all support being delivered online.

We are keen to reach 16-25 year olds with additional needs who are isolated and may not be not engaged in education or training. Sessions will be tailored to the each young person. Information and links to local networkswill be provided to parents and carers where needed and useful suggestions and resources to support students who are anxious or uncertain about their future plans can be provided to education providers where students request this.

Young people can make a Request for Support from Time to Talk themselves or others can make a Request for Support on behalf of a young person here on the NDTi website.

Short Break - Small Grants

After a pause due to the COVID situation, we are pleased to be able to now launch the Short Breaks Small Grants programme for 2020/21.  These grants are about helping local projects get up and running, and enhancing the Knowsley Short Breaks offer for children with disabilities and their families.

This year, there are 8 different themes we are looking for bids on, and grants will be for a maximum of £5,000.  Please do read the Guidance Notes and Eligibility Criteria documents first, before completing the Application Form. The deadline for applications to be submitted is NOW CLOSED

Knowsley Community College still have places available for the their internship programme beginning September

The Supported Internship consists of 4 days in a work placement and 1 day at college.  Due to COVID 19 we are running an extended induction, students will be in for 3 days a week for at least the first half term.  Students are given a mentor in the work place and have weekly visits from a job coach.  On a Friday they are taught off site and complete lesson in English, Maths and Employability lessons.  Students pick 3 areas that they are interested in for placements and we try our best to find a placement in either one of these areas.  To give you some examples across St Helens and Knowsley this year we have had placements in; McDonalds, The Range, Asda, Charity Shops, Warehouses, MD Creatives (drama, media), Plumbing and heating, grounds maintenance and a retirement village .  This course runs for 1 academic year.

Outcomes – we hope that our students will move to voluntary/paid employment (depending on their personal choice).

NDP Update 19th March 2020 from Knowsley CCG


All assessment processes have been affected by the current situation relating to COVID19

Staff conducting assessments may be called upon to support the national health service in other ways at short notice and therefore appointments will be slow or cease for some time [how long this will last is not yet clear as the situation is still unfolding]

Parent appointments will be conducted by phone but children need to be seen for their assessment and this will stop until further notice

Follow-up appointments at Alder Hey will be conducted by phone – this too may be affected by the possible need for paediatricians to do other work at Alder Hey

This applies to appointments with Alder Hey, Northwest Boroughs and Clinical Partners

We apologise for any distress this may cause , but as you will appreciate, these are exceptional circumstances.

We will post updates if there are any changes.

Dear Parents,

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and following the advice from the government, we have decided to move all the ADI (the part of the ASD assessment with parents only) and the ADHD assessments over to Skype/FaceTime/Telephone. With regards to the ADOS (the part of the ASD assessment with the child) we have decided to postponed these until it is safe to conduct face to face assessments again. The last ADOS assessment will be delivered on Saturday 21st March.

As soon as this crisis is over we will be in touch to rebook all the ADOS assessments.
