MYA Choices Knowsley 'Short Breaks'
The MYA Choices Knowsley project is a funded ‘Short Breaks’ service for disabled children/ young people and their families. The main purpose of a short break is to give parents or carers of a child or young person with a disability the opportunity to have a break from their caring role.
Provision is available for disabled children and young people aged 4- 19 and currently residing in Knowlsey.
The MYA Choices Knowsley project provides children and young people with the opportunity to engage in fun and inclusive activities, which support, challenge and inspire.
Our needs led provision puts children/ young people at its core and through regular consultation we empower service users to be involved in the decision making process.
Through group-work and bespoke activities we aim to collectively increase confidence and the ability to learn new skills- leading to independence. By providing a safe, welcoming and openminded approach, we seek to improve social skills and facilitate opportunities to engage with the local community.

For those families who are worried about returning to post lockdown provision, here are some of the recent feedback that MYA have received regarding their current summer holiday provision.
“Very pleased that you have been able to provide ‘Short Breaks’ in the current climate. This is the first opportunity that Megan has had any contact with others since March and the way it has been managed has worked well. She has handled it in a mature way, coping well with the changes put in place to keep everyone safe and have the freedom to enjoy some normality.
Thank you!”
“The staff are always friendly and well informed. The service has always been an essential part of our young people’s lives and the last few months have made us realise just how valuable this is to our young people and families. We appreciate all the hard work that has been done to enable this summer to continue, and we hope that this will still be available in some form thereafter.
Thank you to all”
